Heroic stories

With this exercise you translate the energy of success stories from the past into the future  *


Bring your team together and briefly explain the purpose of the session. Make sure the setting is safe and confidential.

In the  first round, you  ask the team members to tell a story from their childhood in which they rose above themselves. In which their contribution was decisive for the success of the group. The story has to be heroic, we want goosebumps on our arms. Allow five minutes for preparation. The team members then tell their story one by one. 

In the  second round  , you have the team members individually write down what they think the project is stuck on and what quality of themselves or one of the team members can break the deadlock. The team members also present this one by one. 

In the  third round  , the ideas are collected on a wall or board. They are then ranked with, for example, dotvoting. The top three are translated into concrete actions. It’s great fun when a team member presents the harvest of the session in story form. 

* This method is indeed very similar to the Liberating Structures (LS) Appreciative Interviews. Only this exercise continues where LS stops.
