Feedback

Feedback is to a team what water is to a plant. Nevertheless, giving and receiving feedback also proves to be difficult in experienced teams. There are many techniques that can help with this – and handy mnemonics – but in the end it is mainly a matter of practice. But as a starter you can download the LSD feedback card below (pdf)

Click to download the PDF (English version planned).

In the LSD workshop, sufficient attention is paid to working with feedback. We use fun exercises for this and especially a lot of improvisation and role plays.

SELFIE
In an autonomous team, the team members are no longer individually assessed by their manager. No end-of-year discussions, please or individual growth bonuses. Instead, the team members rate each other or, better, the team. This is of course only possible in an adult team. A useful tool for this is the so-called team selfie . Define the aspects in which you want to grow as a team and assess yourself periodically. Always ensure that the assessment results in a number of concrete actions.

POSSIP
Receiving feedback turns out to be at least as difficult as giving it. A fun exercise is ‘POSSIP’, a contraction of Positive and Gossip. The setup is simple: the person who receives positive feedback from the group turns his/her back to the group and lets the words wash over him/her. How did this feel?

SENSELESS?
According to writer Daniel Pink, we should stop giving feedback. Because it is a form of looking back and he thinks that is pointless. He believes that we should primarily look ahead and therefore advise each other. I think it’s a bit far-fetched. Feedback always looks ahead, otherwise you wouldn’t give it.
